Insulation
Bulkheadsmustbeinsulatedandprovidedwithaninteriorwalltothedeck.The
insulationshouldbetheminimumequivalentof50mmofrock-wool.Inaddition,piping
passingthroughthespacepronetocondensationmustbeinsulated.
Ventilation
Thesonarroommustbeconnectedtothevessel’sventilationsystem.Ifthisisnot
possible,two3”ventsmustbeprovidedfromthesonarroomtothemaindeck.Inthe
room,theairinletmustwheneverpossiblebelocatedclosetothedeckandtheoutletas
highaspossible.Afunnelshapeddrip-collectormustbemountedbelowtheventpipes
todivertmoisturetothebilge.Onthemaindeck,thebestventilationisprovidedwhen
theoutletpipeisatleastfourmetershigherthantheinletpipe.Tokeepoutseawater,
rainandspray,theventilationpipesshouldbettedwithgoosenecksortheequivalent.If
thevesselislikelytooperateintropicalconditions,asuitableairconditioningsystem
mustbeinstalled.Thissystemmustbeabletoprovideanambienttemperaturenot
exceedingthemaximumoperatingtemperaturesforthecabinetsinstalledintheroom.
Cableprotection
Ifthecablesbetweenthesonarroomequipmentandothersystemunitslocatedin
differentcompartmentsonthevesselpassthroughhatchesorareaswheretheymaybe
damaged,theymustberunthroughconduits(minimum2”conduitisrecommended).
Electricalinstallationsandlights
Thesonarroommustbeequippedwithsuitablelightingtosimplifytheinstallationand
toaidfuturemaintenance.Aminimumnumberofelectricaloutletsmustbeprovided
forthesystemunitsandotherequipment.
Bilgepumpanddecking
Ifthesonarroomislocatedbelowthewaterline,itmustbeconnectedtothevessel’s
bilgepumpsystem.Ifthisisnotpossible,aseparatebilgepumpforthesonarroommust
beinstalled.Oncetheinstallationhasbeencompleted,thesonarroommustbesuitably
deckedwithoutrestrictingaccesstotheequipmentandthecables.
